The
ruin of the O'Brien Castle is a tall column near Brigid's Well and
is dedicated to Comelius O'Brien, the landlord much maligned in the areas
folklore. It was built in October of 1853. The Relievers Well was built
by Cornelius O'Brien as a source of water for a family known as the Relievers
because they provided relief work for starving people during the Great Hunger.
As you approach Liscannor watch out for the castle - the photograph on the left was taken from one of the bedrooms of Carrig House!! |

| The
photo on the right was taken across the bay from Lahinch. Note Carrig House,
distinctive with its two tall chimneys, next to the O'Brien Castle. There are stunning views from each of the bedrooms, whether looking toward the sandy beaches at Lahinch, or the rugged coastline of Ireland's western seaboard, where the Cliffs of Moher plunge 200 meters into the sea, and stretches for five miles. |
